Change happens in people’s minds before it can be perceived in actions and words. All employees should be involved in the company’s transformation. They must be given responsibility. Everyone should be encouraged to change without hesitation or fear and to risk tackling things differently. Employees should be valorized and praised as soon as they have made progress and achieve their first successes.


Helping everyone to take the first step themselves

Change is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to surpass themselves, to leave the trodden path and find renewed pride in their jobs, except when someone thinks for them and keeps telling them what to do. Change happens in people’s minds, so it is important to give everyone the opportunity to take a step back and allow them to decide and try out what the best way is for them to succeed. The (calculated) trial-and-error method is an excellent learning tool: you gradually move forward, add corrections and make improvements until you discover that changing is not difficult at all. All you lacked was the courage and confidence to do it.


Thinking positively in all circumstances

Mentality change is a gradual process. Our brain needs years to transform some of our actions into automatic behaviour. How then would it be possible for the brain to suppress a person’s old behaviour and seamlessly internalize new patterns of behaviour in two days? To accelerate the change process and avoid that the first errors and problems cause disappointment, there is only one method: always look on the bright side. Assess what has already been successful, examine the advantages of failure and always try to find a solution to a problem instead of blaming someone for causing it. Encourage, valorize and praise the employees. Do not distinguish between them – it will only discourage the weaker.


From conflict to positive confrontation

During the changes in the structure, organization and mentality, it will become clear that using each person’s creativity and sense of initiative is an extremely valuable way to solve problems in the field quickly and efficiently. Everyone can defend valuable ideas and submit suggestions, which is a good thing if everyone has learnt how to communicate and share their ideas without causing conflict. Sharing and exchanging ideas is one of the keys to change if it is done in a positive manner. It must never escalate into a conflict between two individuals who are both convinced they are right.
